Another for Halloween

Hey!

Wanted to jump back in with another quick pre-Halloween recommendation: Psycho Goreman

The Kickstarter is for a 65 page Sci-Fi Anthology comic, based on the fantastic indie-film from the mind of Steven Kostanski, and featuring a killer line-up of top creative talent.

Now, I could try to explain what Psycho Goreman is all about, but I couldn't possibly do a better job than the  movie trailer. CLICK HERE to watch it. Spoiler alert: Its hilarious.

Once you're done with that, CLICK HERE to check out the Kickstarter.

If you were a fan of the 80's "Kids befriend monster" sub-genre that was kicked off by E.T., then Psycho Goreman is 100% for you.

You're welcome ;)

I love sketch. Sketch! Sketch Sketch!

Ooo boy!

We're soooo dang close to making our first stretch goal at $10,000! I can't stand it! So I'm offering a free bonus comic added on to the reward of whatever awesome backer get's us there! It's up for grabs to almost anyone at this point, so I can't wait to see who get's it!

In the meantime, I've been having fun with the Daily Drawing Drawings! Check them out!

We've got everyone's favorite Anchorman, Ron Burgundy for long time friend and backer, Kate! All those years of drawing caricatures still pay off occasionally.

This backer requested a black-winged angel. And because I like monsters, you know I had to go all Book of Revelations with it.

And this backer wanted me to give her OC witch character the treatment. I really enjoyed the reference art she shared with me, and I always love drawing original characters.

Hope you're enjoying the sketches, cause I'm really enjoying making them. I'm doing a random drawing from the list of backers everyday, so if you've pledged, you're entered to win!

Plus, everyone who backs before midnight CST on Saturday will get the Thuper Thpooky bundle (plus 2 others for a total of 25 free digital comics) on top of their reward!

And while I'm here, I absolutely must shout out Project Magus on Kickstarter.

In a post-apocalyptic future, a special forces corporal must use magic to combat terrorists. I mean... that premise alone! And the art is pretty dope ass well. If you think that sounds as cool as I do, CLICK HERE to check out their Kickstarter. There's only one week left in the campaign, so you might want to jump on that whilst you still can.

And, since it 'tis the season to be spooky, I thought you might enjoy this little project:

You may have also noticed that I'm a bit of a Dracula fan. So when I stumbled across this, I new I had to show it some love. Dracula: Visions is a 56 page art book featuring over 2 dozen top tier artists presenting their unique interpretations of the most famous and celebrated vampire in all of literature and popular culture.

Like... This page is worth scrolling through for the artwork alone. CLICK HERE to do that

And while you're there, swing by the Impure Blood, Vol.4 Kickstarter page to cheer us on and see if we've made out first stretch goal yet!

More soon!

Till then, be good!

But not too good 😉

Do you like scary movies?
over 4 years ago – Mon, Oct 25, 2021 at 07:02:58 PM

So the Steam- Fantasy Bundle might be done and over with, but there are still 3 more bundles of digital comics on the table! And the next one to go is the Thuper Thpooky Bundle.

Chock full of scary goodies, I thought it would be the perfect addition for any Halloweenies out there. But, just like the last one, you gotta back before midnight on Saturday if you want it included in your reward.

And since it's Halloweek, I figured I'd share my spooky movie playlist for this year!

In no particular order....

Extra Ordinary manages to capture the charming, dorky flavor of a Wes Anderson movie, without the constant need to frame everything in the dead center of the screen. It's a little bit gorier in places than I was expecting, but the cast is genuinely hilarious, and Barry Ward gets to show off some amazing character acting when he start's to channel some of the local deceased. Highly recommend if you're looking for a comedy to round out your watchlist.

Malignant is a great choice for jaded fans of horror movies who feel like they can't be surprised anymore. The first half of the movie leads you to believe that it's your standard vengeful ghost story, and yet something's not quite adding up. Once the twist drops, you realize the film has been building up to it the whole time and it feels both justified and earned. You will not be disappointed by this movie.

Every year I try to include a classic that I had yet to see, and this year it was Candyman. (The 1992 original, that is. Apparently they just released a remake.) I can't say much for the special effects, but it's commentary on race and racism remain relevant. Black neighborhoods in Chicago are treated the same way a "civilized" white explorer might treat some off the map part of "darkest Africa". Indeed, at its core this is a Heart of Darkness story and there's a reason it's revered. If you're looking for a post-watch party conversation piece, this is it.

In classic Stephen King fashion, the worst monsters in Doctor Sleep are the humans. There are not one, but two very cruel onscreen child deaths in this film. That's a big trigger for me and it very nearly caused me to shut the movie off both times. The other thing that generated resistance in me is that this is a sequel to The Shining, a film who's legend looms large. How could anyone possibly make a sequel that's worthy of the original? And yet, I'm here to tell you that it is. It cleverly builds on the mythos established in the original and could even serve as a pilot for a series starring its young new star. This is a must for fans of the original, or anyone who likes a good superhero origin story.

And, last but not least...

Sooo... What if Dracula was written by Michael Crichton?

The Strain sets the Bram Stoker original in the modern day and blends its plot points with those of a standard pandemic narrative. The two work surprisingly well together, and with Guillermo Del Toro wearing the producers hat, you know you're in for something good. Something that hits a little close to home, every public official the mishandling the outbreak to avoid looking like they're mishandling the outbreak. Life imitates art, I guess.

So I hope my watchlist gives you some ideas for your own this year. Whatever you wind up doing this Halloween, I hope it's fun, safe, and, within your personal tolerances of spooky. Now if you don't mind me, I'm off to build up my horde of pumpkin-spice so it will last me till spring.

Happy Halloween, and be good!

But not too good 😉

Daily Drawing Drawing!
over 4 years ago – Thu, Oct 21, 2021 at 09:24:06 AM

Impure Blood, Vol.4 is chugging right along! We're well on our way to our first stretch goal, getting Volumes 1-3 to you by Christmas. We even have our first Daily Drawing Drawing giveaway winner!

This one's going out to Ellen! She likes cats! And since Impure Blood is a steampunk story, I figured I'd throw in a little Victorian flare.

I'm choosing a random backer everyday for a free sketch! It could be you! But you have to pledge to win!

So you probably already know I love comics, I love fantasy, and I love table-top RPGs. So when I saw this campaign on KS I knew I had to shout it out.

It's a D&D 5e compatible campaign, set within the  mythology-inspired world of the Luminous Age graphic novel series. This is such a great idea! I want to do something like this for an Impure Blood setting someday!

The Kickstarter not only includes digital comics, but 3D model files for you to print out mini-figs! That is so cool and I'm not promising that I won't totally steal that idea someday!

The first issue of Luminous Age is a part of my Steam-Fantasy Bonus bundle (which will be included in the reward of everyone who backs Impure Blood 4 before midnight Friday)

...but if you want the whole experience, you definitely need to CLICK HERE and check out the campaign proper!

And once you're done with that, stop by and check in on Impure Blood, Vol.4. We're always happy to see you.

And hey! We're already one of Kickstarter's "Projects We Love"!

I love you too, Kickstarter. I love you too. ❤️
